One of the things I have always appreciated about Lightroom is the way it does not impose a particular way of working and allows the user to do things the way they wish. This was brought home to me yesterday during a webinar sponsored by X-Rite which featured pro photographer Kevin Mullins describing his post capture workflow. He uses Lightroom in a way which I suspect its creators never quite intended, but the application is sufficiently flexible to accommodate his method of working. Mullins uses Photo Mechanic to review and select his images, which is much quicker than doing it Lightroom, and only imports those which he intends to process, the first stages of which he has automated in both Lightroom and Photoshop. This frees up the star rating system which he uses to categorise images in Smart Collections according to the way they have been batched processed in Photoshop. It is fascinating viewing for anyone wanting to find out about Lightroom's more advanced features.
I have been promised a link to a recording of the webinar, which lasted for around 50 minutes, and I'll post it here when it is available if anyone expresses interest.
