Ebony Camera Ceases Production

Postby Mike Farley » Wed 29 Jun 2016, 08:18

Ebony Camera, which produces large format film cameras, has stopped taking orders and will manufacture its last camera tomorrow (30 June) having taken its last orders on 15 June. According to an article on Luminous Landscape*, while part of the trend of moving away from film, the decision is as much due to the age of its founder. Hiromi Sakanashi is 73 and still inspects every camera before it leaves the workshop. The business is not closing entirely and spare parts will continue to be available for the foreseeable future. The cameras enjoy a good reputation among those who do such photography and Joe Cornish is one well known user.
