Something that I've started to do whenever I get back from big holidays is to compile all the photographs I like and produce a hardback, professionally printed photobook. Not only is it a good memento of the trip but it means we can share the best of our adventures with friends and family and without fail everyone has been impressed with quality of the books themselves (and occasionally the photos!)
What I am offering to do is to contact everyone who has an image that has scored 10+ in our print and DPI competitions to get the original image files then I'll volunteer to compile the book. I also thought it might be nice to include sections on our special competitions, such as the monochrome, nature and annual exhibitions. Once I've created the book each member can choose to buy a copy - this is direct with the company who do the printing, the club itself is not printing the books.
I realise pricing will be the key factor here and to put things in perspective I compiled a 198 page book from a recent diving holiday and it came out at £48 (inc. P&P). I know this sounds like a lot BUT I'm not expecting a CCC 2012/2013 book to cost quite that much. Having said that, as a club we produce some superb work and I think it'd be nice to commemorate our efforts each year and share in our combined success. It'd be a once-a-year purchase and even if it did reach £50 then saving £1 a week would allow you to have a memory of what we achieved.
I thought the 10+ score was a good "minimum" to set as it serves a couple of purposes including keeping the number of images down to a manageable level (if we have 30ish entrants, doubled for standard and advanced, that's 60 photos per competition - multiply by 12 for 6 print/DPI competitions, add in a few hundred for each specialist event/exhibition and suddenly we're looking at a considerably larger book). Also, although we all tend to disagree at some stage with judge marking, generally over the course of time better images tend to be recognised with certificates.
I am planning to bring the two books I've had created so far as a sample of what can be produced although I'd like to caveat the quality of the images now, one was when I'd literally just started taking photos and the other is predominantly underwater photography
Any thoughts?
Annual CCC Photo Books
Re: Annual CCC Photo Books
Following on from the "enthusiastic" ( ) response this received, it's my intention to start this process for the 2012/2013 season PDI, and possibly print, images if I can.
In a nutshell, I'll be getting the least of images scoring 10+ in all competitions this year then I'm going to come around hassling you for decent resolution versions of them so I can put together a book. Once printed I'll bring it along to a club night to show it off then this book will be submitted to the club archives for this season.
So your help in providing high res images is very much appreciated and hey it's a good momento of our work to boot!

Re: Annual CCC Photo Books
I have been doing self publishing of photobooks for a few years now. I used the same company throughout Cewe. They are German and their products are sold through several outlets one of them being Jessops.
I would like to compare your Blurb book to Cewe for quality. If you could do with some help from someone who has more free time than you I can get the book published and you can help by bullying people into submission.
