I have received advance warning of a new local photography competition which is starting shortly. I do not yet have all the relevant info, but the theme will be culture and diversity in Croydon and I believe that the closing date for entries will be at the end of August. The winning entries will be featured in a calendar next year and an exhibition at the Click Clock Gallery, and there might be other prizes. I'll post full details on the forum when I receive them.
Based on my correspondence with the organiser, it is probable that one of the conditions of entry will be that the photographer is responsible for gaining permission for the image to be published from anyone depicted. There was a rule on these lines in the recent Croydon Heritage Festival photography competition, with the result that all but one of the entries I saw had no one in them. With its culture and diversity theme, this condition will pose more of a challenge this time around, but it is not insurmountable. It probably rules out candid shots, especialy if there are several people in the photo, but many people are happy to be photographed if asked.
