Critiquing Images

Postby Mike Farley » Tue 06 Jan 2015, 08:42

Mike Johnston has posted an informative article on his "The Online Photographer" blog about the way image critique is taught in photography classes. It is well worth taking the time to read and a number of the comments provide further insight.

This is the post about shooting a snow scene which prompted the above discussion and that too is a good read. In the comments section, there are two posts by Ctein making suggestions about how to process images featuring snow. That might prove useful if our winter takes a cold turn in the next couple of months.

Together, I have found these two posts to be very useful in furthering my learning. Mike Johnston's blog took a downward dip during the latter part of 2014 due to him needing to focus his attentions on a house move, but he appears to be returning to form as one of the best photography bloggers on the Net. Johnston's main source of income comes via his blog* and a primary driver for the move was to improve his working conditions, so it is definitely one to watch.

* The blog is free to read, but relies on some advertising, affilliate fees from the likes of Amazon and the occasional print sale.
