CCC Photographic Book 2015

Postby Iggy » Wed 08 Jul 2015, 00:27

Hi Nina and Wally,
You were recently talking about producing a photographic book of some of the works of Croydon Camera Club members.

You might be interested to know that BonusPrint often make the offer of a 100 pages, hard cover book for just £19, which is affordable. I don't know how many books BonusPrint permits a single person to purchase and print from a single set of images but I could find out tomorrow.

Any L-Size Book For £19.00.
Voucher worth £79.37 for £19.
Any L-size landscape, square or portrait hard cover Photo Book.
Includes 100 pages (76 additional).
Includes a photo cover and UK P&P.
Valid until 30 September 2015.

I have used BonusPrint once some 5 years ago for a wedding photo book and was happy enough with the results.

By the way, is there a past CCC photo book that we could look at to get some idea of what to expect?

Kind regards,
Iggy

I looked into doing this via blurb or adoramapix when I was still in the UK - it was mentioned a couple of times in the introductory notes section of club meetings but no one ever got back to me.

Another idea I had was to ask people to submit higher resolution images or DPI and Print competitions (yes, both) and we then add the winners/commendations to the book at the end.

However, to make sure all club members are represetned, I also though allocating every member a page to submit whatever they wanted so everyone has a presence in the yearbook was a good idea.

I think the idea is fantastic, but no one seemed interested :(

Mike Farley wrote in another thread about BonusPrint books earlier this year that I have just seen:
I have just received my book that I created using last offer in which I included a number of images from my 2013 photo a day project and the quality was very good. I took the book to the Wratten Lecture and a few people had the opportunity to look at it. For £19, it was a bargain and I am now considering doing a "greatest hits" one. There shouldn't be any problems filling 100 pages, should there?

Good to hear from you DavidC.
All good points that you have made.
I just checked Blurb out and they are much more expensive than BonusPrint.
Quality might be better?
Thanks.

PS: This morning, I have just spoken to a Miriam at BonusPrint who informed me that one could run 20 books or more from the one set of prints. Putting text in was apparently easy to do too. Phone was picked up very quickly, which is nice.
I need to start putting my holidays and other trips into books, but so much to do including 5 parties/ barbecues in the next two weeks such as the CCC Barbecue kindly hosted by Wally & Hilary on the 22 July!

I used this offer to create a photo book of selected images from my 2013 photo a day project. If anyone is interested in seeing the print quality*, I'll bring it along to the club this evening.

Incidentally, there is an offer currently which finishes at midnight tonight. Just drop me a PM if you want the URL.

* Nothing much I can do now about the aesthetic quality, I'm afraid.
Regards

Blurb print quality is pretty good - though not the best I've seen - and is overall the most balanced in terms of quality vs. price. They also frequently have 35% off deals and there are savings to be had ordering in bulk.

The standard hardback BonusPrint book with cover pictures and print (100 pages for £19) that Mike kindly brought to the meeting last night, looked pretty good to me.

They do offer extras such as
High gloss finishing at 20p per page
Layflat premium not offered with square book but available with Landscape Book - 25p per page

That pushes up the price of the 100 page book to £19 + £45 = £64.00 !!!
