Fuji X Pro 2 Announced Today

Postby GrahamL » Fri 15 Jan 2016, 11:37

Hi folks,

Fuji have announced this morning the details and pricing of their new X-Pro2 mirrorless half-frame camera. Pretty close spec to that rumoured. They've kept it under wraps pretty well though as it will be on sale quite soon, some time in February. Wex are advertising it for £1,349 body only. In the US it will be retailed at $1,699.95.

A new X-Trans CMOS sensor, updated hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder, larger size images, splash-proof, 1/8,000 shutter speed, new AF system (and processor) and dual memory slots, all in much the same size camera as before. There's also an improved menu, but the old one was pretty bad, so easy to improve on.

see http://www.fujifilm.com/news/n160115_01.html for the full spec. No reviews as yet, though the production model is probably already finalised, given the expected launch date. There's a number of images at http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/14/10766824/fuji-x-pro-2-announced-specs-price-release-date Suspect hand-on reviews will be out before the end of the day.

Fujifilm also announced the equally expected new telephoto for this mount, the XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6. This is a weather-sealed super telephoto that extends to around 600mm in full-frame equivalence. This lens will be available for US $1899.95, also in February.

There's is also a new Fuji X-E2s, but I understand for those like me with the X-E2 a new firmware upgrade will make the older camera almost equivalent functionally. I guess the changes are pretty small so they though existing users should lose out too much, kind though .

First full review I have seen. Looks like a promising camera with most of the shortcomings of the original rectified.

DPReview has now published its review and answered the one outstanding question I had from the one published by Amateur Photographer, namely the performance of continuous autofocus and subject tracking. It appears to be improved from the X-Pro1, but it is still not an action camera. Based on Fuji's own comments a while back, I guess we will have to wait for the next generation to see that.
