Back in the early days of DSLRs, models typically had short production runs and were frequently replaced. Even today, that is still the norm for most consumer models. The one exception has been the Canon 7D*, which came out just under five years ago in 2009. I could be wrong, but I think that this might be the longest period for which any digital camera has remained current and would even exceed the life of some film cameras.
Is the venerable 7D about to be replaced? It is a Photokina year, although fewer announcements are linked to the show these days.

* The 7D's sensor was new in 2009 and is still used in many of Canon's other DSLRs. Since then, Sony and Nikon** have moved on, so one intriguing question is when is Canon planning to catch up?
** OK, Nikon does not actually make its sensors, but claims that others manufacture them on its behalf to its designs.
