Faux HDR Method

Postby Mike Farley » Fri 04 Jul 2014, 19:44

This is the method of enhancing contrast in a colour image using Silver Efex Pro and the luminosity blending tool which I described in my "Photo 365" talk on Wednesday. Since it was Simon Clarkson who told me about it, I frequently refer to it as the "Clarkson Method".

Simon appears to have taken down his sample images from flickr, so here is one of my own. The first shot is with Clarkson and the second is as it started out. It was a straightforward conversion in ACR with +21 Clarity applied. In SEP2 I burnt in the highlights on both sheep's faces. Were I doing this shot properly, I would moderate the effect in the grass with a layer mask, but have left it here for the purposes of this example.
