I am woefully uninformed about printing... I avoid doing it as I haven't yet got my head around outputting for print.

However, one of my images of the BBMF + two Lancasters has prompted at least three people to ask if they can have a print. I'm thinking of doing a batch of 'limited edition' prints on decent paper - probably through The PrintSpace, but I would welcome suggestions from other online or local printing companies I could use. But I need to output the image correctly first...

What's the best method of producing a file that will produce a high resolution print on 400 x 200mm paper ?

I have not used the company myself, but Pro-Am has a good reputation, although you might find their range of papers a bit limited for your needs. I have used Loxley in the past and had good results from them. There are no local photographic printers which I am aware of.

The best people to ask are at the company which is going to produce your prints and you will probably find the answer in the FAQs. Generally, it's a JPEG file, sRGB colour space and 300 DPI. The image file you currently have will print a bit larger at 300 DPI than your proposed paper size, so it might need to be downsampled. I would expect whichever printing company you choose to handle this.
