Results of the first round of the SLF Colour Print competition held at Croydon on 22 October 2014, judge Paul Adams DPAGB FDPS.

    1. Croydon CC - 67 points
    2. Beckenham PS - 66.5
    3. West Wickham PS - 66
    4. Selsdon CC - 63.5
    5. Orpington PS - 62.5
    6. Carshalton CC - 61
    7. Aperture Woolwich PS - 60
This was a close fought contest with each club submitting some good images and just one point covered the top three places, with Croydon prevailing overall by half a mark. We now go forward to the semi-finals where we will meet the runners-up of the other first round competition. Beckenham also go through to the semi-finals and the remaining clubs will participate in the Plate contest which will be held in the New Year.

Individual scores for our panels were:

  • Another View Over a Fence (Paul Wenham) - 8
  • Back Seat Driver (Mike Farley) - 7.5
  • Belvedere Dawn (Bill Gray) - 9.5 (Certificate)
  • I want to be a model (Tom Sherrin) - 8
  • Prize Beetle (James Dunn) - 8
  • Red Pipe (Mike Farley) - 10 (Certificate)
  • Tanglewood Creek (Bill Gray) - 9
  • Three Cries at Passchendaele (Tom Sherrin) - 7

Seven certificates were awarded for the images judged to be the best of the evening, with Croydon members receiving two of these. Congratulations to Bill Gray for winning a certificate for "Belvedere Dawn" and all those who pictures enabled our club to achieve this excellent result. All photos which are awarded certificates during the course of the competition are submitted to a separate contest to find the best image of the competition, the results of which will be announced on SLF Finals Day.

These are prints for which there are not necessarily digital versions. Also, as we are still in the competition, publishing the shots would be premature as it could give the opposition an advantage.

How would it give them an advantage?

They might try to adjust their panel to take account our our images. Say that there were two very similar pictures and they thought theirs was weaker, they might want to substitute it, for example.

All this year's SLF panels were chosen by a vote in which all members present at the meeting participated. Thus most members have had an opportunity to see all the selected images which reduces the value in publishing them. I accept that your circumstances prevented attendance at the meeting, but yours is an exceptional case.
