Meeting 29 October 2014

Postby Mike Farley » Thu 30 Oct 2014, 17:25

I apologise to all who attended for the ad hoc nature of this meeting. Our speaker had e-mailed his acceptance of the booking, but appears to have overlooked the engagement which was arranged some time ago. Incidents of this sort are very unusual, so it is surprising that it has occurred at two out of three camera club meetings I have been to this week*. The club will also be looking to see whether anything can be done when booking judges and speakers to lessen the risk that something similar will happen again.

My thanks to Canna for her impromptu talk about LED lighting. It's quite amazing that she just happened to have all that equipment in her car. Our Members' Evening on 21 January will feature portraiture and Canna has offered to bring along some LED lighting equipment for us all to try. It is still relatively expensive for amateur use, but is being widely adopted by professionals both for still photography and video. Prices are dropping, so who knows, we might all be using it one day. Kirk Tuck, a professional photographer based in Austin, Texas, was one of the first to utilise LED illumination for his work and has written a book on the subject. The first of many by different authors, no doubt.

* The other time was the non appearance of the judge at the SLF mono print competition two days previously. The night before I had presented at another club, the only occasion for me this week when the speaker turned up. ;)
Regards
