No More Hasselblad Bling?

I have never worked out who would want one of Hasselblad's rebadged Sony monstrosities. It seems that Hasselblad itself has belatedly come to the same conclusion.

The comments make for interesting reading too, a complete lack of surprise mostly. I wonder how many they actually sold.

I would have loved to listened in on the meeting where the blinging of older Sony models was proposed, with the executives present all thinking that it was a good idea and green lighting the project. It beats me how anyone could think that it would be a success. If Hasselblad was serious about producing an upmarket camera, they would have done something like the Leica T and designed their own camera. That would undoubtedly have meant a real commitment and substantial investment, but with the prospect of a better outcome. Although the Leica T does does not appeal to me, you can see that it is the basis for a new system that should take Leica into the future and increase its sales.

I bet I can predict how that meeting went. Someone with a bright idea said that for a minimal investment they could make a huge profit with near zero risk. Finance people decided they liked the sound of the that so it went ahead. Except that the assumption that photographers, second only to golfers as to how nitpicky and anal about gear/reviews we are, wouldn't see right through this :)

I do wonder how many were sold worldwide and just how much of a loss hasselblad made.
