Waiting?

Postby Mike Farley » Tue 16 Dec 2014, 08:44

Most likely you are what Thom Hogan describes as a "waiter". Your camera does what you need and the manufacturers are not offering a compelling enough reason to upgrade. Hogan gives a list of what might prompt Nikon owners to make a purchase (some of which would also apply to other marques such as Canon*), but I am not sure that adopting these suggestions would be sufficient to reverse Nikon's decline. I suspect that the company's current push to move serious users to full frame is where it is seeing most traction. Similarly, I expect that the situation is much the same for other brands and I am not sure that transitioning to mirrorless is actually the answer on its own, which would explain why neither Canon nor Nikon has yet made such a move.

* Canon already has wireless flash and tilt shift lenses, for example.
