I am not sure about the position in Europe regarding warranties, but one point made in this post from Thom Hogan is that the manufacturers are not adjusting prices in the US to reflect the falling exchange rate of the yen against the dollar. That might apply over here as well in respect of the pound.

It is worth noting that some grey importers in this country offer their own insurance backed three year warranties which are longer than the manufacturer' official support.
