Pentax has long been a cinderella brand, left in the kitchen while the likes of Canon and Nikon with their greater resources party at the ball. Nothing much changed when Hoya bought Pentax, but it seems that new owners Ricoh have the R&D budget to revitalise the brand. Imaging Resource provides a glimpse of what might be around the corner.

The pixel shifting technology looks intriguing, with its promise of Foveon like quality from a Bayer sensor. Of course, pixel shifting has the disadvantage that both camera and subject have to be still during the exposure, so has a limited application.
