Much buzz online that is "confirming" Lightroom CC will be officially announced tomorrow, albeit nothing from Adobe themselves. The rumours are coming from sources that apparently have a good track record and it backs up the teasers from Scott Kelby too.
64 bit only is confirmed. It's unsure if it will be subscription only or a standalone product but some are suggesting it will be both based on leaked packaging.
Will be interested to see the new features, so far I've found lightroom only of limited use and clunky to use.

I have seen a few suggestions that the new version will only have a few added features rather than being a dramatic overhaul, but as the last major update was three years ago I cannot believe that Adobe would want to cede ground to its competitors, particularly when therev are reports that its Raw processing engine lags behind others. Nor do I think that Adobe will make LR a subscription only application, although it does have the relatively low cost Photography Plan which it could use to encourage users away from perpetual licences. We'll find out soon enough.
This is my take from a few days ago - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1550.

You are definitely in a minority. When I visit other clubs to give my LR based talks, overwhelmingly most people are using it. The majority of my post capture processing is done in LR and I find it to be well featured and capable. I also own Capture One and DxO, but I find the former fiddly to use and while the latter has some good features, it also has its quirks. What do you use for Raw processing?

It's Lightroom 6 or CC, depending on whether the licence is based on the perpetual or rental models. I have not looked in detail, but it seems as though the rumour sites were accurate about the new features, even if they got the date wrong on a number of occasions.

Now I have had an opportunity to look at what is new, I am left feeling underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, I can see that the new features have a value for some. Functions such as HDR and Panorama Merge will save trips into Photoshop and the performance improvements are definitely needed, but it seems to me that the list of updates is desperately short given the two year gap since LR5. Whereas I find that the new features added in LR5 are genuinely useful, other than the aforementioned performance tweaks most of what is new this time around will have little benefit for me.

OK, this upgrade doesn't suit Mike so Adobe might as well cancel it

I nearly spat my morning coffee on the monitor there, well done
For my own processing, I use various tools for the job depending on the pictures, quantity of them and types of adjustment needed. E.g. corporate photoshoot where I controlled the lighting I used lightroom to make a standard set of adjustments and applied it to all of them. Likewise if I have an image that needs perspective correction I use lightroom. However, I start everything in Bridge - lightroom's review process is slow still, comparing images side by side to assess which is sharper before deleting one is awful and so on. I also don't think the portfolio management side of things is fast enough or even reliable enough. I've assigned star ratings in Lightroom and it simply refuses to save them.
Lightroom's performance over a network from my storage array is just painful, I now don't bother, and while Bridge is slow it's still noticeably better. The application itself is as slow as a dog too.
Once I have the images I want to use I then use LR if there's a specific tool I need (perspective correct, lens correction, gradient tool - I find the LR gradient tool much easier than photoshop). Otherwise it's ACR and into photoshop.
I like to do my images, for my own work, one at a time. Photoshop is the better processing tool, has all the plugins of LR and more. For instance I have a dedicated noise reduction plugin that LR simply can't come near.
So don't get me wrong, if I want to slowly and painfully edit a large number of similar images or correct a skewed building I'll use lightroom. For individual images where I want the best quality I'll use ACR into Photoshop.
Re: Lightroom CC announced tomorrow?
I haven't downloaded LR6 as I'm actually going to move to Adobe's Photography Plan now. Mike may not be that impressed with the update but he failed to mention the brush & gradient tools, which I use a lot and the tweaks to those are definitely welcome additions.
