DxO One Camera

I must admit that I yawned when I saw the announcement of DPReview and initially did not go beyond the headline, thinking it was just another camera. The article with a more detailed analysis did get my attention, though. It turns out that rather than being merely a new camera, it could represent a new technical direction and a move away from the traditional form which dates back to models which used film.

Of course, Thom Hogan has a view about the new camera and his comments are mixed. He compares DxO's innovation with the iterative approaches from Ricoh and Canon which have both also just announced new models, but he does have harsh words for DxO as well. His main complaint is that the company has put its camera through its own benchmark tests, or rather it hasn't. What it has seemingly done is apply a skewed version of those tests to obtain a favourable result compared to other manufacturer's products which have been assessed using different criteria. Oops.
