exhibition at V&A

Evening All, I went to a photographic exhibition at victoria and albert museum yesterday, they do have a huge archive and there is always something interesting there.
This one was by a chap called Linneous Tripe far from what his name says. Beautiful meticulous photographs of India and Burma in the 1850-60's.
He was a captain in the East India company before the were disbanded by the government of the day. ( Did you know that the East India Company had a square in Elgin Avenue for square bashing and the two houses at the top of the road in Addiscombe Road were for their leaders )
Anyway the pics were Albumen prints and were gold toned, they were made from paper negs and later glass negatives, from quite large negatives.
He produced quite a few sets which were sold to the government and the company. They were used for topographical purposes as well as for the delight of viewers. Sold to people in folios.
I suggest you go and see them, beautiful !!!
