CSC Benefits

I am in two minds about this article by Steve Gosling which promotes the benefits of CSCs, Olympus in particular. Not because of anything he says which holds true for me, but simply because he is an Olympus Ambassador and this is not declared. Yes, the guy is making his living with the cameras, but in my view it comes too close to being an advertorial.

Took me a while to work out that CSC means 'compact system camera'... :? :?

I prefer MILC - Mirrorless Interchageable Lens Camera. So far as I am aware, I am the only person who uses that term as it is my own invention. Now that is confusing. ;)

Derek Forse who recently gave us a really interesting, entertaining talk on the 20 Jan uses mirrorless cameras and is also an ambassador for a camera company (can't remember which one). I guess camera companies use different ways to promote their products.
In the 1990s I was an ambassador for Pentax where my aquarium fish features carried the Pentax logo stating that images had been taken with a Pentax Z-20. This came about when I sent some of my work by snail post to the CEO in Japan who many months later instructed his London Office to supply me with the Z-20, fantastic 50mm macro lens, 28-80mm lens & flashgun. Great camera but heavy. Prior to that I had started using a Pentax Spotmatic bought from new.

Derek Forss is sponsored by Olympus, an arrangement which has been in place for many years. The way he described it in his talk, he got their support in a similar way that you did from Pentax, by writing to them.

My dealings with Pentax ended when the digital age came in and I moved to the Fuji S7000 that gave terrific close-up images with on board flash of fish in aquariums. Then so much was coming in from the features that were getting published as a hobby, that I did not try to get another camera deal. The depth of field with the S7000 was superior to any slr with macro lens!
