LensRentals disassembles a Fuji 55-200 zoon and find it to be well constructed given the relatively modest price tag. It is currently around £450 in the UK, but has been lower and Fuji often runs cashback offers. It is unlikely that the guys at LensRentals will take another Fuji lens apart, but this example gives confidence in the quality of the engineering. I have the sister 18-55 lens and optically it is very good, belying the modest price I paid; it certainly has a quality feel.

A further comment about the performance of the IS on Fuji's lenses. The shot below, my picture of the day for 21 January this year, was taken handheld with a X-Pro1 and 18-55 lens. Ostensibly that is the kit lens, but it performs much better than most in that category. In order to get the movement blur I wanted, I found that I needed to go to 1/2 sec shutter speed and was surprised how well the IS coped in those coircumstances. Yes, some shots were spoiled by camera shake, but most came out acceptably sharp.

Did you perch it on the railing/balcony? There are lots of nearby/handy "tripods" in waterloo (assuming it's the same as I remember!). Can be good to squeeze out a longer shutter speed.

The camera was handheld aginst my eye and I did not rest my arms on one of the balconies. Not thinking it would work, I started off at around 1/8 sec and was astonished at being able to achieve increasingly longer shutter speeds. And yes, it is Waterloo.
