Could be just the thing for someone wanting inexpensive and/or portable lighting gear.

Davidc's still excellent guide to setting up an inexpensive lighting system based on these types of flash units. Some of the product links might no longer work*, but the principles are unchanged with just a bit of detective work needed to find alternatives.

* I have not checked, people are capable of doing that for themselves

For the product links, most have been superceded by newer units. Searching for the generic term (e.g. flash trigger) returns the right kind of kit.
Any questions feel free to ask.

I'm going to get one of those amazon flashes and try it out :)

Someone has written about their experiences using these flashes, using a setup similar to that recommended by Dave. One unit was good, the other had a fault and is going back.
