The UK has announced bans on certain electronic devices being carried as cabin luggage from six countries, due to the threat of terrorism. At least two of the countries are popular holiday destinations, Morocco and Turkey. I usually travel with a laptop so that I can view and backup my shots while away. Under the new regulations, I can carry the laptop in the cabin on the outward flight but it would have to go into the hold for the return trip. In theory, that should be safe and airport security so tightly regulated that there is no possibility of valuable items going astray in transit. Yes, right. The ban is in place precisely because airport security in these countries cannot be trusted. Even the option of using a tablet instead of a laptop is not viable as only smaller phones fall within the size limits.

So far, cameras are not on the list. It is probably only a matter of time. The US has annouced a similar ban which covers eight countries, so I would not be surprised to see others added to the UK's list.
