Silver Efex Pro, which is part of the Nik Collection, is one of my favourite applications and DxO has just released version 2 of the software suite. My initial disappointment is that very little has changed, a few tweaks here and there, but nothing revolutionary. That said, there is a strong argument for not radically altering what, for some years, has been a very useful application. The main selling point seems to be the inclusion of a stripped down version of Photolab 2. That would be fine if only DxO could overcome its aversion to supporting Fuji cameras with the X-Trans sensor.

Something which I missed from the DxO announcement is that the Nik Collection is now integrated into Photolab 2, hence its inclusion in the upgrade bundle. For those using cameras based on Bayer sensors, that is a significant enhancement to the workflow, albeit Photolab still does not offer any asset management functionality. Together with the absence of support for Fuji cameras, it has a way to go before it becomes a viable Lightroom replacement.
