Am I alone in thinking that £1,200 is an insane amount of money for a compact camera with a 1" sensor? Agreed that it has some impressive looking specs when it comes to things like the sensor, autofocus and frame rate but some aspects look dated. When I am shooting 90 images in a second, maybe the option of a UHS-II card would be useful. Better take the card out of the camera and put it a reader when reviewing the images, as well. That in camera USB 2.0 connection is going to be painfully slow.

It includes the Panasonic ZS200 (TZ200 in UK) which is $400 cheaper than the Sony RX100 VII, but still a significant increase on what I paid for it's predecessor the TZ100.

Not sure what the target market of these devices is - I got mine because I wanted a secondary portable camera for casual use and the UI of mobile phones is terrible, but ... well I guess I should be glad I got mine before the prices went stupid.

In the interests of being even handed and understanding both sides, this is a post from Steve Huff who tends to be enthusiastic about most things when he blogs. I suspect that it is primarily due a wish to remain positive and he does not do negative reviews for equipment which he does not like. On the few occasions when I have followed his recommendations, his opinion has been borne out by my own experience. On that basis, it would seem that Sony's new camera is aimed more at well heeled vloggers than photographers. In that context, it could even represent something of a bargain. It might be that one of the earlier and less expensives cameras in the range would be just as suitable unless there is a specific need for the new features.

OTOH, Michael Johnston at TOP is not entirely convinced. He suggests the Panasonic LX100 II as a cheaper alternative, although I think that it is also overpriced in comparison to its predecessor. Unless someone needs the extra reach of the Sony's longer lens, it should cope with the majority of shooting situations.
