No More Antelope Canyon Photography Tours

Postby Mike Farley » Thu 12 Dec 2019, 08:49

One of the best known photography locations in the world, Antelope Canyon has decided to stop running tours specifically for photographers. The last one will run on 20 December*, after which the canyon can only be visited in larger groups which do not cater for the needs of photographers. Bruce Barnbaum claims to have discovered Antelope Canyon in 1980**, since when it has dramatically increased in popularity. That, it seems, has led to the decision as it was becoming more difficult to run both the normal and photographic tours alongside each other.

The full story is on PetaPixel:

* If you act as soon as this post is published, you might have just enough time to get on a plane ..... ;)

** Barnbaum's monochrome images are definitely among the earliest taken at the canyon. However, 1980 was also the same year he "discovered" the photographic potential of English cathedrals. Just saying.

Given the ubiquity of social media, I suppose it was more or less inevitable that someone would actually do this. The story is on PetaPixel. Incidentally, the author, although a photographer, agrees with the decision to end the photographic tours.
