Lightroom Alternative?

For those who resist Adobe's software rental pricing model*, this is another in my occasional series about alternatives. I have been hearing good things recently about Skylum's Luminar which seems to be maturing nicely. It has now reached version 4, which is the same level that Adobe achieved when (arguably) Lightroom achieved a significant level of functionality. Certainly, versions 5 and 6, despite being "major" releases, added relatively little to the application. Here is one example of a review from someone trying Luminar for the first time.

* Even those who use Lightroom regularly need not restrict themselves to one application. For a relatively modest price, Luminar adds another option to the toolbox which might be better for some images.
