Warning - easyJet Hand Baggage Changes
Posted: Fri 17 May 2013, 15:24
If anyone is flying off with easyJet from this July, there are some changes to its hand baggage rules which might effect you, especially if you are carrying camera equipment. The maximum guaranteed size of hand luggage which can be taken into the cabin is being reduced and on busy flights some larger bags could be checked into the hold, even if still within the legal limit, to take their chances of turning up at the other end. Luggage handling staff know exactly what is in any bag without having to open them as airport operators provide them with powerful x-ray scanning equipment for the purpose.
Apparently easyJet has introduced this measure as so many passengers are carrying only hand luggage to avoid the charges for luggage checked into the hold that sometimes there is insufficient locker space available on the plane. The changes might not look significant, but apparently it represents a 36% decrease. The new size is determined by the dimensions of what can be stowed under a seat.
Of course, if you pay easyJet extra money, they will still kindly let you take your valuable camera gear into the cabin.
"easyJet plus cardholders, FLEXI fare, easyJet plus Upfront or Extra Legroom customers, can continue to bring ONE piece of cabin baggage no bigger than 56 x 45 x 25cm including handles and wheels – and use easyJet plus Speedy Boarding to board first in order to secure space in the overhead lockers."
