After 24 years, this annual show will not be held again and this year's exhibition was the last. What I had not realised was that it was managed by an individual rather than a company and that person has decided to move on. It's a great shame, since it was a good place to see and meet well known figures in photography. It was also an opportunity to see lots of photographic gear in one place, not to mention the offers which were available at advantageous prices. Nothing lasts forever, but it will be missed.

The only other trade show in the UK of any significant size of which I am aware is the one held in conjunction with The Societies convention each January. Occasionally dealers such as London Camera Exchange and Park Cameras hold events, but I have never been to one of these to make a comparison.

Focus On Imaging might be no more, but it is going to be replaced by a new show held at the same location and time of the year. Good to see the RPS getting involved. Hopefully the cost of entry will not be on a par with Future's Photo Live show later this year.

The new show now has a website and already there is quite a long list of exhibitors including some such as Panasonic which never made an appearance at Focus. Many of the other major camera manufacturers have already signed up, although not Ricoh Pentax, Samsung or Sony as yet. It also looks as though there will be more events happening as well as the usual trade stands. The only downside is that ticket prices are slightly higher, but it does look to be a cracking day out.

The Photography Show (the replacement for Focus on Imaging) is run by Future. What will happen to Photo Live next year?

I've booked my tickets (why do all websites insist upon a booking fee? £0.95 for this show) and hope I feel in the mode on the day.

The two shows are different in nature. The Photography Show looks as though it will primarily be a trade event, very similar to Focus, but with a few additional activities and talks. Photo Live was mainly talks by well known photographers with a small number of retailers also attending. I have not heard whether it will be repeated in 2014, especially as there is another photography show supposed to be taking place at the ExCel centre at around the same time.

As we have done for the past few years for Focus, we will probably have a club outing to The Photography Show, travelling to and from Birmingham by train. Depending on which services we use and booking a few weeks in advance, it is possible to get some very advantageous fares - £15 return for the past three years.
