I have just been reading about a trip to Antarctica organised by Luminous Landscape. It definitely sounds like a place to visit, but the bit which really caught my attention was in the Casualties section at the end. Here there is a description of how a 350mm Zeiss Tele Super-Achromat which was not securely attached to the camera fell into the sea. So far as I can tell, this lens is no longer available new and the few secondhand ones I can find for sale are all around the £8k mark. Whether these are "if you want it, you will pay it" prices occasionally seen from opportunistic/optimistic vendors on sites such as eBay is unclear, but definitely an "ouch" moment for the unfortunate owner. Maybe the fishes will enjoy playing with their new toy.
