Portrait Evening - 17 April

Postby Mike Farley » Sun 14 Apr 2013, 11:52

There is another practical evening coming up when the club holds the second of our two portrait evenings this season will be held at our next meeting on 17 April. On this occasion, we have a mother and her two teenage sons posing for us. In return for their giving us our time, we will be giving prints to the family and everyone who takes part will be expected to submit a selection of full size digital files afterwards. The club will be responsible for producing the prints.

The earlier event was very successful, but as it was the first time the club had run such an evening, we will be making a number of changes based on what we learned.

  • Andrew Dunsmore, a very experienced photographer from local company Picture Partnership, will be on hand to provide tuition for those who require it.

  • As before, there will be two setups. Andrew will be on one, while the other will be available for those who wish to practice what they have learnt.
  • Wally will be managing the second setup to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to take photos. Depending on numbers and demand on the night, the time available to each person could well be limited to two or three minutes.
  • The studio flash units are fired by a combination of a wired lead and slave cell, which can be triggered by on camera flashes. Those who are not actually using the studio lighting are free to take pictures, but this must be using available light only. On camera flash should not be used.
  • As a courtesy to those using the studio lighting, other members should not attempt to direct the models.
A number of people have used images from the previous portrait session in the monthly competitions. With a bit of cooperation, there is no reason why everyone should not have a good evening and come away with shots with which they will be pleased.
