Not 100% sure if the last post made total sense - basically, the organisation was "meet here, meet people, go take pics" and it was only when Samsung got involved and offered free stuff if you went to a particular place at a particular time that it was a let down on the organisation front. I don't think it was well organised BUT they made no promises to organise it so I knew what to expect :)

Thanks for the explanations, Dave. From my perspective at least, there seemed to be promises of information on the Advanced Photographer website and their Facebook page which did not materialise when I was looking even a few days beforehand. I know you eventually found some material which, presumably, was posted fairly late on. For me, it did not instil confidence. Samsung should have done better and, having given its support, has let itself down.

As you say, if there is something similar next year, skipping the overnight part makes a lot of sense. Whilst you found an especially rough part of London, there are no guarantees that other areas would be much better. Low life might target the more popular locations and going somewhere quieter has its own dangers if you do happen to run into the wrong person.

It will be interesting to see what Will Cheung has to say. Good for you on feeding back.
Regards

Thanks, Paul. You obviously had a very productive evening and have produced a good variety of shots. The moon over the Shard is astonishing and I also particularly like the people and shadow images. Well done.

Great selection of images Paul! Super moon over the shard stands out. What lens did you use?

I too like the moon/shard shot, been waiting ages for that to line up! Now I've missed it for another year but at least I can set a reminder for 2014 :)

A pretty old Sigma 70-300mm APO lens. The view is taken from the public gallery at One New Change shopping centre. When we got up there the view was very impressive. Was amazed how quickly the moon moved. Would take 2 or 3 shots and then have to move along to "balance" it on top :D

Yeah it's surprising how fast it moves, try setting your camera/tripod up with the moon centred into the frame then using Live View zoom in - it'll be out of frame in a matter of seconds!
