Hi. I know this is short notice. Is anybody interested in doing a shoot at the London Aquarium tomorrow – Thursday 29th or Friday 30th Jan?

I intend to be there from about 10.30 am (opens at 10 am) and want to experiment to see how light works with water – reflection and refraction.

I don’t know what lens would be most suited so I will take a few and try them out.

The London Aquarium is based in the old County Hall next to the London Eye. Nearest station is Waterloo. The ticket price is £23.85 booked online or £26.50 at the door.

Sorry, Jay, I might have been interested but I have other things going on which I could not re-arrange at such short notice. I hope that you have/had a good outing with many successful pictures.

Hi Jay,
I have been to London Aquarium at least three times in the last few years and written them up for various Tropical Fish magazines, both US and UK.

Using fairly basic equipment, Fuji S7000 bridge camera and later a Canon 400D with a Sigma 18-70mm macro lens I got results good enough for the magazines to publish. All the shots were taken handheld although I was permitted to go in at 8am, a couple of hours before the general public, as I have covered around a couple of dozen public aquariums round the world, all published. Wide angle shots of whole or part aquarium that were reasonably well lit were done with the highest ISO available and usually shot at 1/100sec. Individual fish filling the frame were shot ~f8 & ~1/100 sec, manually set and with the little flash on the camera. This year I upgraded to the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 and the Canon 70D still with the 17-70mm macro lens.

Any way here are a couple of my London Aquariums publications done for 2 different magazines.

How do I upload PDF from my hard drive to this forum? I could send them to by email.

I cannot make the dates that you suggest, but it is difficult to get images with lots of people teeming about, and then you are not allowed to use flash. Hence my early morning, private sortees made possible as I was writing for a magazine.

I would be interested to see how you get on.

Good Luck,
Iggy

Posting London Aquarium feature as images, as PDF at 1006KB to big to post.
Images are small #43kb each as bigger one are not accepted by our forum and needed to get all four in, but it gives you a flavour of the Aquarium and the feature.
The editor of Marine Habitat preferred to include lots of my images to give a better view of the inside.

Last page would not fit above even though they are just 50KB each!
