Members' Evenings 2015-16

Postby toms » Wed 08 Jul 2015, 17:02

Hi All,

The Council along with the Programme Secretary (our Wally) is hopefully over the next two weeks going to finish compiling next seasons programme.

In direct response to requests from the Members Workshop Evening, one of the suggestions is to split some the members' evenings. As an example only, while a lecture is being given on Lightroom basics, those members who are competent in those basics could meet up locally and do some portraiture or landscapes.

If this were to go ahead then it would be good if members were willing to share their skills with others and help us to form some sub committees. The type of subjects that would be relevant would be:

Basic Photoshop
Basic Lightroom
Advanced Photoshop
Advanced Lightroom
Portrait photography
Landscape photography
Aerial photography
Architecture photography
Low light photography (e.g. night)
Still life photography
Etc.

So, if any of the above interest you with regards to being on a sub committee or to teach those skills to others, or if you have any additional ideas as to activities of interest, then please add to this post and either myself or Wally will be in touch.

Thank you,

Tom Sherrin

I'm happy to do an illustrated talk on aviation photography, with tips on camera settings, technique etc.

Tom

I am sorry to see that so few people are responding via the forum. Hopefully you are getting lots of offers of help via e-mail instead.

I have a number of talks which have already been given at the club, but many have been updated in the interim. Some members will not be familiar with them as it was a few years ago when they were last given. They could be suitable for a Members' Evening, either in full or in part.

The two which might be of interest are:

  • Post The Camera - in which I look at workflow and other considerations for post processing of digital images
  • Photoshop FTJ - basic Photoshop processing, based on the use of the Elements version

There is also "Aspects of Composition". I have already presented this twice, although I had made substantial changes and added a lot of new material by the time I gave it again. The second occasion was never officially in the programme as it was used as a short notice replacement when the scheduled speaker pulled out on the day of the meeting; possibly some people might have missed it as a result.

Finally, as I mentioned elsewhere, I have a lot of unused material from last week's "Lightroom Rules" session which could be pressed into service.
Regards

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your most welcome offer. For next season on 4 November we are provisionally looking at offering an Introduction to Photoshop Elements. I'd envisage this as being a practical based evening to give members the opportunity of trying some of the techniques out for themselves. Are you interested in helping out on this one?

I note your other offerings and will come back to you later on them if that's OK.

Regarding the offers of help, you're right response is very limited despite the posting and emails. Only three members have come forward (including yourself) and they're on this topic already. As you appreciate, we can only put varied and/or buddy type evenings together where there is a will.

Hopefully things will improve over the summer.

Regards,

Tom

Sorry, Tom, I am presenting at another club that evening.

Yes, of course that's OK. They are only suggestions and there might be other things which people want to do on these evenings.
