I'm totally biased of course, but I would definitely recommend a club outing to Somerset... Wells would be a great focal point and I can be your local guide ! There's a brand new Premier Inn due to open here in February which is walking distance from the centre of Wells. Opportunities would include:

- Day and night photography in Wells around the Cathedral, Bishops Palace and moat, Vicars Close, market square. (Walking distance from the hotel)
- Cheddar Gorge (15 minutes drive)
- Ebbor Gorge (15 minutes drive)
- Draycott Sleights and Stoke Camp Nature Reserve - panoramic views of the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor, and Bridgwater Bay (10 minutes drive)
- Axbridge medieval square and church (20 minutes drive)
- Glastonbury Abbey and Tor (15 minutes drive)
- Avalon Marshes, Ham Wall, Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve, High Ham Nature Reserve - famous for starling murmurations (15 / 20 minutes drive)
- Priddy (10 minutes drive)
- Wookey Hole (5 minutes drive)

And a bit further afield there is:

- Weston Super Mare (14 miles)
- Bath (15 miles)
- Bristol (15 miles)
- Burrow Mump (35 miles)

Do I need to mention we have some great pubs, local cider and cheese too... ;) ;)

Thanks Rose,

Your suggestion sounds an excellent idea and one I think we can explore.

Perhaps the club could look towards doing three outings this year which would give members at least an opportunity to do one or more of them.

Let's see the amount of interest that comes forth on this and the other suggestions and we'll take it from there. For my part, count me in even if only a few of us can make it.

Lovely to hear from you.

Tom

Rose,

Given the other two outings which look like they will run, we will still take you up on your offer even if it's deferred to next year. It'd be something to look forward to. Thanks for the great suggestion.

In any event I'll pop down and see you around June time if only to have a look around, we've got relatives near to you.

Tom

Hi Rose

Thanks for this suggestion, which is certainly of interest. Even if the club does not undertake a trip this year, I might pop down once the Premier Inn is open and the weather looks a bit more promising.

Visitors are always welcome, especially if they are photographers as it gives me an excellent excuse to get out with my camera ! ;)

Here are a few pics from my night photography trip in Wells last week to whet your appetite :)

Stunning pictures as always Rose. You've certainly wetted my appetite and I'll definitely be coming down.

Will watch out for the opening of the Premier Inn as their offers are very good if booked in advance.

Regards,

Tom
