Sunday 30 April sees the 3rd round of the British Motocross Championships being held at Canada Heights track, near Swanley. The event runs roughly 9am-4pm.
I've not been to such an event (except, from vague memory, as a child) and don't pretend to be an expert or enthusiast for the sport, but always thought it would make an accessible subject for sports photography, with no doubt some characters in attendance who would make good portrait subjects. The website has a photo gallery which suggests a range of viewing positions are possible http://www.sidcupmotorcycleclub.co.uk
I'm planning to make the trip, so let me know if you would like to come along. Looking at travel websites, it seems anywhere from 30mins-1hr drive from Croydon or about 1.5hrs by public transport. I can't find ticketing information online, but imagine there will either be no entrance fee or only a small fee payable on the door.

Motocross on 30 April - gauging interest
Re: Motocross on 30 April - gauging interest
In fact, the price was staring me in the face - £20 for adults, £5 for kids, £45 for a family ticket.

Re: Motocross on 30 April - gauging interest
Hi Steve
I might be interested, although from a photography point of view it could be better to go to a smaller event. Fewer people might equal better access.
I did come across this forum discussion about shooting motocross events. It is going to be mudy and dusty, so protecting gear will be a consideration. I would probably put a filter on the lens, at the very least. Inside the field where the pros go seems to be the best position for shots, but can be dangerous. Not that it is likely to be possible at such a big event.

Just wondering how the Motocross day went and if there are any images to see.

Hi Iggy
The event coincided with the Sunday when we needed to collect our prints from the exhibition. Due to this, and limited interest from members, I decided not to go ahead. However, there will be other opportunities later in the year - perhaps one for winter months when there is more mud flying around!
