Interesting to see how it turned out, Nina. Unusual combination of textures.

My Photographica shots were taken with the X-Pro 1, which is just as well otherwise you would have posted the first shot here from my camera before I had.

Looks nice, and I like the micro-contrast - was this tweaked in PP at all?

The micro-contrast could well be due to the lens, which is exceptionally sharp and one of the best in the Fuji X series range. It definitely bests the 18 mm lens that also came in the X-Pro1 package I bought. In fact, I am a little surprised that Nina did not think it was "too sharp", although this might be a comment she reserves for more exotic optics.*

My main issue with the lens has nothing to do with its performance, but it is a pancake design and does not have an aperture ring. This gives up some of the joy of the Fuji by not being able to set and see the aperture on a ring mounted around the lens. Other than that, it is a real gem. This review from Photozone gives an idea of its capabilities.

Yes it was tweaked! However for some reason I am still unhappy with this image. I can't seem to get the color and saturation right on the tulips and yes Mike it is too sharp.

There are three possible explanations.

1. The tulips were like that in real life, but Photoshop long ago dispensed with that sort of issue.
2. The non Bayer colour filter array on the sensor cannot cope with those particular hues.
3. The Photoshop CS3 Raw converter you are using was developed many years ago and has not been optimised for the Fuji X-Trans sensor, which requires different demosaicing algorithms.

As I still have the Raw files, I'll see what more recent software can achieve when I have a moment.
