Henrhyd Falls

Another image taken on the same holiday as yesterday's "Leaping Sheep" shot. In this case, it was not so much forgotten as discounted at the time as I was not able to do much with it in post capture. As an experiment, I tried the monochrome layer luminous blending mode technique which has previously been described elsewhere on the forum. This really brought out the colours and textures in the rocks in a way I had not managed previously. The monochrome conversion I used for this image utilised the same settings in Silver Efex Pro 2 as those for "Leaping Sheep". I deliberately left the Structure controls unchanged, although they can be good for enhancing texture, as I did not want to overdo the effect.

As an experiment, I tried boosting the Clarity slider in the Lightroom Raw conversion to see whether boosting mid-tone contrast would have the same effect, but it does not give the same richness of colours and tones, so there is clearly something else going when blending a colour and monochrome layer.

The area with the waterfalls is in the south west part of the Brecon Beacons to the west of Merthyr Tydfil and around 45 minutes drive from where the cottage where the main party will be staying. I have got an information pack purchased from a local tourist information centre, so they are easily located. It could make a worthwhile wet day outing if the weather turns against us.
