I thought I’d try and do something different with the light?

What settings did you use? I'm guessing slightly longer exposure times that normal perhaps?

Are these all single images or did you combine any to make a composite?

Luckily they had two sessions of fireworks. One at 7pm and another one 8 pm. I had made a complete hash in the first session.

In the first one I did most of the things you are not supposed to do:

• Try to follow the firework trail
• Used autofocus
• Stood too close

In the second session I moved as far back in Park as I could, which gave me a better view and set the tripod.

• Made adjustments to the settings
• Used manual focus to set where the main bits of fireworks exploded
• Changed to a faster Memory Card (60MB/s)
• Set the ‘Auto Bracketing’ at 0.3
• Had the Long Exposure ‘ON’
• Set the shutter to ‘Bulb’ – Focal Point varied between F5.6 & F11 – ISO kept at 160
• Used a cord to fire the camera – sometimes I kept it open up to 15 seconds – depended how many fireworks were released at the time?

Then I stood back with remote cord and hobbled on my feet as it was getting cold.

My brief from the outset was to capture the ‘magical dance’ of light against the black background.
