POTD 23 October 2015 - Coming Into Land

There is quite a backlog of images to post here, so you will not necessarily be seeing them appear in alphabetical order. This is from Abbotsbury Swannery where there was some flying activity. One of the people who works there is someone I know from Bridport CC and he told me that during the autumn earlier on in the day the best time to see the swans in flight as they return to feed from further along Chesil Beach where they have spent the night.

Abbotsbury has the largest colony of swans in England, so you are always guaranteed to see them there between March to October when they breed. That does mean it is not always possible to isolate individual birds and if this shot does go any further I might remove the second swan in the background. This shot was processed entirely in Lightroom and I have darkened the other swan a bit, but Lightroom's tools are not really suitable for compositional adjustments on that scale.
