POTD 30 September 2016 - Conker

Postby Mike Farley » Fri 30 Sep 2016, 20:58

I tried my new Daguerreotype Achromat lens with this horse chestnut seed emerging from its shell. It was too sharp at f/5.6 for what I wanted and at such a close focus just a bit too soft and dreamy wide open at f/2.9. I eventually settled on this version at f/4.

For comparison, here are the shots I took wide open at f/2.9 and at f/5.6 with the Daguerreotype Achromat. These are not really competition images and are more about learning the characteristics of the lens. Were I to put any of them in front of a judge, I would be more likely to go with the f/2.9 version as the effect is more obvious. When it comes to judges, subtlety is not always the best option. :?
