Portland Bill

A sunny day today raised my hopes for a worthwhile sunset, so I made my way back to Portland Bill. Whereas on Sunday the sun disappeared into a band of cloud on the horizon, this time I was able to watch its descent all the way down.

I was a bit later arriving than I had wanted and I had to work quickly. The shot below was meant to be a test, but the light disappeared a moment later and it was the only worthwhile result.

To my delight, while most of the action was happening in front of the lighthouse, there was some colour in the sky behind it.

After the sun had set, there was still plenty of drama in the sky as light from the sun from below the horizon was reflected in the clouds.

Hi Mike,

Hope you are still enjoying your time in Dorset and the weather has been OK. I like your images of Portland Bill, this is my attempt :D .

Hi Keith

Yes, we are having a good time and the weather has been good in general. No sunset shot tonight, though. Instead, there is some unforecast rain.

That is certainly a dramatic sky which you captured at Portland Bill.

Hi Mike,

What a difference an hour makes. Really like the vibrancy of the rocks in the Portland Bill image. What a shame we couldn't get there a bit earlier. I saw the sunset forming throughout the latter part of the afternoon but by the time we got there the best of the light had gone. Never mind, there's always next time. :)

I attach a few of my images from the weekend.

Regards,

Tom

More like three days. I took these after the rest of the club had gone home, having returned to Portland Bill when there seemed to be a chance of a better sunset than the one we all experienced. That first time, the sun disappeared behind a cloud on the horizon. The second time I saw it sink into the sea.
