The Past Re-Lived, January 2021 – Iggy Tavares

Having completed the challenging 52 shots of the week 2020, I have opted for a change in tact so that I can keep photo sharing every week.
In the New Year 2021, given that the pandemic is still raging on, I am moving away from the 52 frames specified new image that has to be shot each week.
What I hope to do instead, is work from my total portfolio of images already on my computer which I have not used in previous CCC competitions.
So "new" work for the most part as the images have to be processed.
Each month, I will select a topic from my portfolio and will post weekly images to cover that area to tell a story.
I much prefer to have my images within a compact monthly group, thus keeping my topic footprint on the CCC Photo Sharing Forum to just a friendly one dozen.
So, 12 topics to cover in 2021 with a minimum of 52 images.

Hopefully, this might encourage some CCC members to at least participate in the Shot of the Month project.

I expect to be using my camera regularly in the garden and for indoor still life too.

Yellowstone Park – Grand Prismatic Hot Spring

Flew to Chicago, then a 5 day conference at Big Sky followed by 3 nights at Old Faithful Lodge. Had a car for 8 days.
The Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park is more than 100 metres in diameter.
Spouts 2000 litres of hot water per minute that can reach temperatures of 87°C.
Magnificent coloration is down to various species of heat-tolerant bacteria.

Smaller hot spring is just 3 metres long.

Yellowstone Park – A Few Wild Animals

There are lots of wild animals in Yellowstone Park, but getting close is difficult as one has to keep on the road.
Additionally, lots of park rangers ensure that visitors stay in their vehicles when large animals are around.
Capturing the bear in the meadow for a Monet style impressionist image was done by playing deaf.
Lucky also to get the single bison cooling off in the river, while lots were grazing in herds on the other side.
Other animals in the distance were elk and not seen were moose, wolves, grizzly bears and more.

Yellowstone Park – Old Faithful and more

Old Faithful is a cone geyser that predictably erupts every 90 mins or so day and night.
At each eruption, 14000 to 32000 litres of hot water is discharged into the air.
This reaches heights of 30 to 60 metres for a duration of up to 5 mins each time.
So, an impressive show that is well attended by visitors to the park.

Yellowstone is also dotted with lots of smaller geyser with less predictable eruptions.

Yellowstone Park - Mammoth Hot Springs

Mammoth Hot Springs feature massive formations of limestone built up over centuries.
Boardwalks allow visitors to get close to the wonderful pools, ledges and plateaus.
Various bacteria living in the water add yellow, orange and brown colours to the white terraces.
A small population of killdeer birds feed on insects and larvae attracted to the warm waters.
