Biggin Hill Festival of Flight

Following on from Rose's excellent talk on avionic photography this week, the tips that we've been shown could be put to good effect at the Biggin Hill Festival of Flight which is on Saturday 11th June.

I'm going and will have empty seats in the car if anyone is interested. I intend to get there fairly early to take advantage of the static displays and will probably stay late.

Tickets are on sale now at £19.50 with no concessions available. I'm not going to take bookings for tickets as members can purchase their own online.

Tom, I'd love to do Biggin Hill and would appreciate a lift. I'll get my tickets shortly.

Hi Tom, I am interested in going to Biggin Hill, but might not last the whole day. If I did come, I might go back by public transport.
Additionally, I just have a 70-300mm Sigma lens and the new 24-105mm Canon lens. What do you think?
What time and where from will you be leaving?
I will decide next week if I am going to go.

Hi Iggy,

The show usually starts from 9am and ends around 5pm. Having been there many times I intend this year to pay a little more attention to the static exhibits and period shows/displays.

That said, your two lenses would be just fine for the event. The long zoom would be fine for the aircraft in flight and you could experiment with settings based on Rose's suggestions (I have her camera settings to give to everyone) and the 24-105 is great for the static displays and near-to displays.

When you book your ticket you have the option of a FREE car parking hanger. You could consider taking your own car, meet us when it suits you and leave when you have had enough.

At the moment there are only a couple of us going and we would normally make the final meeting arrangements nearer to the time.

Hi Tom,
Having checked the weather forecast that suggests 80% chance of rain on Saturday, I have opted on covering my local SERA association Love Norbury Day instead that should hopefully provide plenty of photographic opportunities. I am their "official" photographer.

Being a fair weather photographer, there is more chance of finding cover from rain in one of the shops along the high street or just bolting for home if necessary!

It looks like those who went to Biggin Hill got less of a soaking than those who stayed in Croydon.

Only a bit of rain other than that a good day was had by all, well the three of us who went anyway. Some samples below for you to enjoy.

Hi Tom,
Nice images. I was pleased that we all had a more or less rain free day.
I went out for a couple of hours to cover the Queen's Birthday - Love Norbury Celebrations and enjoyed a live band and an Elvis impersonator, and did some light hearted photography for our assocaition.
Hope to catch the Airshow some time next year.

Good work, Tom.

We were returning from Dorset on Saturday and although there was some light rain during the drive, it was obvious when we got home that a lot more had fallen here. That was essentially the story of our week away, as it remained dry until the Friday night which was not the case in Croydon. Earlier in the week I saw a video at the end of a weather forecast of someone attempting to drive under the railway bridge at Wallington where water had collected in the dip and turned their car into a boat.

Looking at Wallington and the surrounding areas I figure that we got off lightly. It's never nice to see so many families suffering a washout. Just a couple of extra images, won't post any more.
