Sigma SD Quattro Prices and Availability Announced

Postby Mike Farley » Sat 25 Jun 2016, 09:16

Sigma, the camera divsion of which currently makes a loss, has announced the prices for its new sd Quattro range with its unique Foveon sensor, which will be available next month. It has taken a different approach compared to the launch of the SD1, which was ludicrously overpriced at £6k body only, and gone for a significantly lower option in the hope of making the camera more accessible and popular. $999 for a camera and 30 mm f/1.4 lens puts it on a par with the DP2 Quattro, which has no viewfinder and a slower lens. I have not seen what the UK price will be, but given the inevitable turmoil (in the short term, at least) in the financial markets following the outcome of Thursday's referendum, Sigma might be waiting to see how the exchange rate pans out.

Just seen this on the Sigma website.

The body has a RRP of £800 and the bundle with the 30 f/1.4 lens is £1k. There is usually a difference between the RRP and the actual selling price, which will give some flexibility to allow for fluctuation in exchange rates which look set to remain volatile for a while yet.
