Royal Academy Summer Exhibition

Postby Mike Farley » Wed 29 Jun 2016, 09:15

The RA started to accept photographs for its summer exhibition a few years ago and this year, for the first time if I recall correctly, had one of the gallery rooms dedicated to the medium as well as another showing a special display of works by Bernd and Hiller Becher. The latter specialised in a genre known as Typology, which consists of series of straight images with different examples of similar subjects. It highlights the variations which exist, but does not do much for me.

All the exhibits can be viewed online and I have set the filter to show just the photographs which are in this year's exhibition.

It is safe to say that much of what is there would not fare well in a camera club competition, but it gives a good idea of the type of work which is favoured in other artistic circles. Entry to the exhibition is open to everyone and at least one member of a club has had their work accepted according to Amateur Photographer.
