Re: Fungi Fun
Struggled to post. Has something changed here. Why is linking not allowed?

Re: Fungi Fun
Thats news to me. I used to be able to link from there.
As the website is woefully out of date can you please explain how I can post an image. I don't want to reduce the size from the one I prepare for the digicomp so I presume I need to upload to another hosting site that allows linking. Correct?

I don't know what you're trying, but the forum's instructions for "Linking to photos on PBase" (which is the first item in How to post pictures) still works absolutely fine.
Here's another method that also works:
Here's another method that also works:
- Browse to the page where your image is: http://www.pbase.com/ninaludwig/image/164245891/medium
- Put ".jpg" onto the end of the image URL: http://www.pbase.com/ninaludwig/image/1 ... medium.jpg
- Copy that URL and paste it between [img] tags in the message area, i.e:
Code: Select all
[img]http://www.pbase.com/ninaludwig/image/164245891/medium.jpg[/img]
- Click preview and confirm that it loads:
Re: Fungi Fun
I can see it works for you, but I assure you that I tried it many times and it didn't work for me. By the way why did you say in your previous post that it was Pbase who is responsible. I post on forums all over the web with direct links to Pbase and this is the only forum that doesn't accept direct linking. So how is it that this is my mistake?

Re: Fungi Fun
Follow the exact steps in my post above.I can see it works for you, but I assure you that I tried it many times and it didn't work for me
If anything unexpected happens for any of the steps, post details of what you were trying and what's not as it should be.
Because they are. Nothing has changed here, embedding or linking to images on other servers is not and has never been blocked on these forums.By the way why did you say in your previous post that it was Pbase who is responsible
The URL you used in the first post is being redirected by PBase servers to a "direct linking denied" image.
This forum has no control over what PBase does.
Open this link in another browser tab: http://www.pbase.com/ninaludwig/image/m ... 245891.jpg
You will see it redirects to this one: http://ap1.pbase.com/site/dld.gif
PBase are doing that. Wherever you got the image URL in the first post is evidently not the correct place.
This forum allows users to embed images from remote servers (aka "hotlinking" or "direct linking") and always has done. The "direct linking denied" image comes from PBase, not this forum.I post on forums all over the web with direct links to Pbase and this is the only forum that doesn't accept direct linking.
The problem is with the specific URL you used in the first post. PBase does not allow you to use that URL.
What PBase does allow is the URL derived via the steps I mention above. If any of those steps are not clear or not behaving as described then post details of where and how things differ.
