I attended the media preview of Wildlife Photographer of the year at the Natural History Museum this morning.
Surprisingly an image taken with a GoPro camera won the top prize. American photographer Tim Laman mounted several GoPros in the tall fig tree to photograph the Orangutan by remote control from the ground. These wild Orangutans were wary of noisy dslrs with large shiny lenses but did not seem to mind the smaller nondescript silent GoPros.

I had a good time this morning chatting to some of the other category winners too.
Cheaper GoPros might be that way to go for camera traps in the field.

Re: GoPro Gone Pro at Wildlife Photographer of year
I had wondered how the shot was taken. It would presumably be difficult to fly a drone in a forest and would distract the subject. A fixed camera makes much more sense and a GoPro is discrete. Considering how good images can be from a smartphone, in the right circumstances quality is not really an issue for small sensors. As this shot proves.
