Sigma sd Quattro H

What is unusual about this camera? The APS-H sensor? No. The unique Foveon design? No, not that either.

The price in dollars is substantially less than the sterling price. $1,200 vs £1,500. Even allowing for the post Brexit exchange rate and taxes which are not included in the US price, that's still quite a difference. It seems that Sigma is following Canon's lead when it set a UK premium for the 5D IV earlier this year.

Not that it makes much odds in the case of the Sigma. You would have to be a dedicated Foveon fan and/or crazy to consider paying that much money. No doubt the resolution will be impressive, but the camera has limited capability and post capture workflow when shooting Raw is torturous. Sigma is pitching up in a segment where there stiff competition, unless resolution is a requirement which supersedes all else. How long before Sigma bows to the inevitable and consigns the camera to the bargain bin?
