Can Lasers Damage Digital Camera Sensors?

It seems that they can, according to this article on PetaPixel, link below. Apparently, digital cameras are 1000x more sensitive to lasers than the human eye. While the context is mainly the lasers used by self driving cars, they can be found elsewhere with rock concerts being cited as one example. I doubt if many of us have ever seen a self driving car, but they are set to become more ubiquitous.
